Those questions don't require the degree symbol; plain numbers and trig functions answer the questions.

I have the same problem. The comment of Jeff Burns does not help. If you don't type the degree sign, the answer is taken as incorrect.

Normally when you have a question like this, you go to Google. In this case though, Google probably has failed you, because it will tell you somehing like this:

"Typing the ° symbol. If you would like to make the ° symbol when typing, you can use these methods: On PCs - hold down the Alt key and on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard, type 0176, or Alt+ 248 When you release the Alt Key, a ° should be there. On Macs - option shift 8...blah-blah-blah" Thanks google...

But... what if you have a laptop? Then you're stuck, because unless you have a really weird laptop, you don't have a numberpad. 

Or not. 

You see, there actually is a numberpad. On your keyboard, look down and find the Fn key. Then, look at the keys just to the left of the enter keys, right in that area. If you look closely, you will see that they probably have numbers written on them, like the picture below, and most likely written in the same color as the Fn key as well.

Great, so now what? 

So, when you are actually at your problem where you need the degees sign(°) you click it and answer it til you get to the point where you need the degrees. Then do this.

Strike the Alt (not the Ctrl)key and hold it. 

Strike and hold the Fn key.

Srike K-->U-->8 AT THE SAME TIME. (If you have a different keyboard, then strike whatever keys say 2-4-8.)

Once you do all those things, a little degrees symbol should appear.

Continue with your problem!

The problem is, I use my phone... My keyboard isn't working for the manual answer... so, i always cancel the math tasks.

I learned by trial and error that the degree sign is not to be input when entering a reply that would normally require it. On the iPad and any other platform that uses a handwriting interpreter tool, the degree sign is not recognized anyway.

So, if the answer is, say, 30 degrees, you need to enter 30 without the degree sign.

This also applies to problems in which the answer is to be a temperature, such as 32 degree.

None of these answers work.  I have pasted in a degree symbol, and even copied the answer from the end, and it does not accept the symbol.  Trying to use just the number (as in 30 vice 30 degrees) gets the "I don't understand your answer" icon.  I have used the character map, used the ASCII code (0176), and even omitted the brackets and distributed the coefficient.  Nothing seems to work. 

Edward Reynolds, as I said in my earlier response, the problems do not require or even expect a degree symbol. It sounds like Khan Academy recognized early on the difficulties of entering a degree symbol and thus designed their expected responses to not include it.

This applies to answers involving degrees of both angle measurement and temperatures.

If I could have done it without the degree symbol, I wouldn't have left the comment.  I have tried every variation (with, without, copy/paste, ASCII, etc.).  Nothing works for those problems.  I have even tried different browsers.  

I have completed 7th grade math, 8th grade math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry.  The only place I have had a problem is with the polar coordinate problems in Precalculus.

This is with ASCII (ALT 0176) degree signs added.  Note the yellow circle that says, "Sorry, I don't understand that" when you put your cursor over it.  The answer, BTW, is the correct one according to "Give me a hint."  I get the same response with and without the degree signs.  Note that you cannot go on until the program finds an answer it "likes."

I had the same problem but I figured out how to input the answer. The trick is to use only round parentheses and no degree symbol (see below).

It was confusing because the correct answer (see below) uses both square brackets and the degree symbol, yet the question did not state that neither should be used.

Very good, that solution makes sense because cos() and sin() need to take in values, and without parentheses the interpreter would get confused.

I’ll report this problem to KA Staff so it can be clarified and the answer corrected.
