Hi Rose,

From my experience, the most challenging aspect of a calculus course for most learners is the algebra, not the calculus. For that reason, I suggest starting with the Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II courses (in that order).

I took algebra and geometry in H.S.  -- didn't have any trouble with them.  But that was a long time ago.......  I will take your advice.  And thank you for the quick response!

does khan academy have applications to calculus practices like it does in this Pdf? what level in any subjects does khan academy go to like as in from early maths right up to university undergraduate math?

Hi Rose Rothenal you should do it geometry, algebra 1, 2 trignometry cosmolearn, pdf the internet has tones of them in any subject and youtube thats what I am doing and I am doing great, I am self teaching myself I feel comfortable doing so and I have good reasons why, then once I make math my strong point, I am going to do the same with chemistry and engineering, maybe eletronics, maybe have a go at reading genetics I have it as a hobby and I enjoy doing it, but right now I self teach myself math and chemistry because its the basis and basis of science, plus I love solving things, useing this site made me fall in love with maths and take things more seriously finally I found my calling, I noticed for atomic, partical and quantum physics I might need or need alot of chemistry back ground if not that would be great if I could just do the maths and physics, but as I say start as you mean to go on.

Pauline.  Enjoyed your comment to me.   We sound a lot alike.  I am weak in history, and math.....strong in grammar, computer languages.   Don't be afraid of conceptual physics.  I started a physics book club with people I used to work with back in the 1980"s... when I noticed that we were all reading similar "science books" at lunchtime.   Our club is now over 30 years old... and after about 5 years we branched out to other areas of science.   Take a look at our website:

I’m from central Scotland I’m I was crap at math thanks to this site I did well, I got down to ap calculus hightwr derivatives then accidentally deleted it 7 month af and I am forever going back through algebra one to keep my math skills strong and I feel that accomplished nothing, I have a strong point in computing and technology. Sometimes I keep saying I should continue on math where I left of from the last time and stick to pdf, I’m not trying to be like anyone but when I see newton, hawking makes me feel like I whant to be one of the greats and maybe I should start again at hight order or derivatives and read pdf because I hear saying khan academy is ment to be used as a reasorcd I wish I could get it into my head.

I mean I am forever anaylizeing things and curious even low I’m 38yr old he’ll I’d even anaylize my own life interpreting things is a habit of mine I have and hence in plonked solving skills.

I am really enjoying this conversation with you.  I am no dummy,  but also no genius.  I graduated 16th  in my h.s. class of 400.  I would say the most important thing about me is that I never never give up......Whatever I am trying to do, I just keep going at it and going at it, until I find a way  to make it work.   I love doing what I call "work-arounds".    I have as much fun making up tools as doing the projects. Hobbies in the past have been woodcarving, clay portraiture, marquetry, lap weaving.  I had to give up woodworking and clay after developing some lung problems in my 60's (p.s. I am 78 , my husband is 88).  Currently, I am doing mosaics,  Khan, Two Dots, and ASL.

I was in the same boat. I'm halfway through AP Calculus BC right now. It's more intuitive now because I worked for the past six months on mastering all the math that came before it -- going back to Kindergarden. This includes -- most importantly the videos, and of course, all the mastery activities that correspond. I've found that watching Sal work problems -- and getting in touch with his thought processes -- have been most important in developing my intuition and building up the desire to complete all the mastery activities.
