is algebra 1 enough for SAT math?

No, usually it will not be enough.

The SAT was created to meet the lowest course you can take in high school, which ends at Algebra 2 if you are in Common Core Math path.  Thus, even if you don't prepare, you will still have taken Alg. 2, unless of course, you are taking the SAT earlier (like me).
