I’ll try to do this in the Khan Academy hint style. I’ll give you the first hint. If you still don’t feel you can move on without more hints, please let us know, and I’ll give you a second hint. If anyone else wants to reply with either more hints or elaboration on hints already suppled, please feel free to join in.
The first thing to do is to realize that there are four triangles that are assumed to be the same area, with the same dimensions. So, to find out how much area each of the four has, take the total area, 1600, and divide it by 4. This result, 1600/4 is the total area of each triangle.
First, you need to find the area of each one. Divide 1600 by 4 to get 400. Now, since the area of a triangle is 1/2 of its corresponding parallelogram, we need to multiple 400 by 2 to get 800. To find the base, we divide 800 by 80 to get 10. The length of each pennant base is 10.
