This website is a life changer!!!
I want to start this out by saying that I am 26 years old - I dropped out of school 2 weeks into the 9th grade. That's 11 years ago as of this writing. Prior to that, my school career was rather...dismal. I didn't go often at all. I'd say I have probably had the equivalent of 5 years of school, total.
I am disabled, and because of that, there are many jobs that I cannot do. I couldn't hope to go and work at a restaurant or any some such.
Now, I started the GED tests back in '09, before they changed. When I took the practice tests, I received high marks on everything but the math. I got discouraged, and didn't bother taking the real tests. I dropped everything. Then, in 2014, I decided to start trying again. Without studying, I passed Social Studies (with honors+college credit,) English (with honors,) and Science. But when I took the math, I scored 11 points below passing. Devastated, I tried to study for it...but I couldn't get through any of the books I tried.
About 2 weeks ago, I found out that Congress reinstated the Ability to Benefit programs for individuals to get financial aid even without the GED. I was immeasurably excited about this, as I'm sure you can guess. It's always been a goal of mine to go to school. However, upon further research, I found that no schools in my area or surrounding areas offered these programs. Not only that, no testing centers in my area or surrounding areas offered the testing REQUIRED for those programs. I was deeply frustrated and upset, but I eventually just decided to start studying for my math test again.
I ordered a book, sat down to study....and found that the book wasn't detailed enough on its own. However, they recommended going to their website and looking at their videos for further instruction. I did so....and found them useful to a point, but there were still a lot of gaps. I ran a search for GED math worksheets, printed them out, and then when browsing the web for further instructions on how to do a problem, I found Khan Academy.
I stopped going to any other website. I stopped looking at any other books. I just stopped. In about a WEEK this site helped me go from below passing to ABOVE! I can now go to college - which starts this summer! This will absolutely change my life. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Sal Khan and everyone responsible for this wonderful website.
