Unit on Negative Exponents needs a lot more content
I have gone through the Negative Exponents unit 14 times, and by the time I get to the final quiz in the unit, I’m lost every time and never able to suss out more than one or two correct answers. At first I thought I just wasn’t getting it and needed to pay closer attention, but now I’m feeling confident that the difficulty just spikes too hard and too fast. The problems look foreign compared to what the video lessons are teaching. And, when I go back to review the videos after questions are answered wrong, I find the videos do not really clear up the confusion. I’ve attempted to learn what I need to learn from the videos 14 times. At some point, it’s not the students fault, and I’m gonna say pretty confidently that someone who is generally pretty ok with math not being able to learn the material after reviewing it 14 times, it’s the fault of the material. This unit desperately needs to broken down into more bite sized pieces so that the difficulty ramps more gradually. I’m 36 and just want to understand the math I missed in grade school. If I was 13, I’d definitely have just given up.
