Are old usernames "released" when you change yours to a new one?
Just curious, since it seems to be linked to a profile URL and wondered:
If I start with a username "UserOne" and then change it to "UserNew", can someone else claim "UserOne"?
Hello MISTERKIKI,
My name is Jo and I am a part of the support community here at Khan Academy and I am afraid that usernames here at Khan Academy are unique. This means that once a username has been used before, even if it is later changed, the username can no longer be used by another user.
Here is an article that speaks to this - https://support.khanacademy.org/hc/en-us/articles/216368447-What-are-the-basic-requirements-for-usernames-.
I hope this helps!
Jo
Hi MISTERKIKI,
yes once a person changes their username to another one then if someone chooses that one that you originally had then they may have it since you have chosen another one.
Hope this helps and if you have any additional questions feel free to ask.
Thanks!!
No problem :)
Hi Johanna D.
thank you for providing that information, I myself did not know that. It appears that even when a user changes his username after the 120 days is over then even so another cannot use either one of them.
Hi Jo,
Thanks for the official response. I was aware of the linked article, but I don’t think it conveys that once a username is used, it can’t be used again, even if the user updates it. Hence, my question. I think your response is quite clear, however, and should be part of the article. Thank you.
