I got Cypress on January 16, 2020. That badge is "Be on Khan Academy for one year." But then on September 27, 2020, only 8 months later, I got Redwood, which is "Be on Khan Academy for two years." On top of that, I don't know the exact date of when I joined, although I do know it was 2 years ago. How do the "X amount of years on Khan Academy" badges work?

I see what happened. It appears that instead of you receiving those badges exactly after one year or two years of being a member of khan academy. For instance, you received the Cypress badge on January 16, 2020. So this means that you reached one year of membership months before you received the cypress badge and so when you were already approaching your two-year membership, which then led you to receive the Redwood badge months earlier than you may have thought because you had reached two years which is when you receive the Redwood badge.
