I teach advanced elementary school math groups and have tried using both the missions and course mastery to guide students. I keep coming back to the missions because the "Mission Warm-Up" and "Mastery Challenges" within the mission give students a chance to 'test out' of concepts they already know or figured out on their own. This made it much easier for students to make quick progress and independently find the course content that was at a 'stretch' level. When using the "Course Mastery" method, I find that students get lost or frustrated when they try to find the best lessons for themselves as individuals within the unit. I've tried having students take the Unit Test first, but it is very time consuming and often students reach a level of frustration with the unfamiliar material. It would be great to see "Course Mastery" offer greater guidance the way "Missions" did.
Thanks for considering this!
