2018 Spring Evaluation Project - A Big Thank You!

Over the course of spring break, retired Guardian Inger Hohler and I ran a 4-week long project (to accommodate for different spring break periods.), geared towards teaching students how to provide high quality project evaluations to peer users in the CS community. Throughout the project, the members received individualized feedback on their evaluations for one week, and had the opportunity to attend 3 live workshops on different CS topics.

The group, made up of 6 KA users, was able to collectively provide 1,283 high-quality evaluations during the 4-week project, and receive feedback on 1,252 of those evaluations.

Thanks to the efforts of this project, the faulty evaluation rate for these 6 members fell substantially. For some students it was reduced from 50% to <=10% on Fish tank and Magic 8 ball, and all students achieved a reduction in their error rate by at least 50% for at least one type of JS project.

Throughout the project, the group also reported 121 plagiarized projects, which led me to 47 additional projects that violated the guidelines. Their help in finding plagiarized projects has been greatly appreciated!

I’d like to thank the 6 participants (Admiral Betasin, An0n3m0us, Homeskool99, Hopper Is Me, LNY, and pinkpuppy22) for all of the hard work that they have put into this project. They’ve come a long ways as individuals, and I certainly hope they all took away something from this project!

Finally, I’d like to thank my colleague Inger Hohler for organizing this project, and for spending countless hours providing feedback to the students on their evaluations. I have enjoyed every moment spent working with her, and I couldn’t have asked for a better person and friend to work with. Without her devoted efforts these projects certainly would not have been possible!
