Pre-algebra or Getting Ready for Algebra 1?

I have 6th grade students who will be taking algebra 1 next year. Which of your courses will better prepare them for algebra 1? These students have demonstrated, through testing, that they have a good understanding of 7th and 8th grade standards, but I would like them to solidify their understanding of prerequisite concepts and skills before next year. With that in mind, which course is more comprehensive in preparing students for algebra 1? Thank you.

Hi Ken,

The Get ready for Algebra 1 course is designed to review the most important pre-requisite skills for the Algebra 1 course, and also relates these skills to how they will be used in the Algebra 1 course. This is a great option to help students master the most important skills they’ll need for the next grade. The length of this course is designed to be completed over a shorter time period, such as summer break or at back-to-school time to complement on-grade-level learning.

The Pre-algebra course is a more comprehensive course that has more than twice as many mastery skills as the Get Ready course. It covers most all of the skills in the Get Ready course, plus some additional skills and it starts to introduce more Algebra 1 concepts. This is a good option if you are not on a short time-constraint for completing the course.

I know this was asked three months ago, but what would your recommendation be for summer learning for a rising 6th grader who will be taking Pre-Algebra in the fall? Getting ready for 7th? 8th?
