Enhancing Coach reports
I've been using Khan Academy for the last few months with a few of my classes and it is a very good system.
As a teacher, I find that spending time on seeing how the students are doing, how much they have done, whether they have made good progress on KA can take too much time.
Initially I began to set them weekly targets of time on KA, or points on KA. Since we can check this quickly on the student progress dashboard.
The problem was that I noticed some students (the ones who preferred to get away with not doing much) were wasting time on Khan Academy by watching unnecessary videos, or doing simple questions(easier missions) in order to clock up their points/time spent each week.
Although time spent and points are useful, these progress reports would enhance the site and the monitoring of its use a lot more:
- points only awarded on questions done on assigned mission
- a quick report (on one document) of which recommended tasks were completed by all the student within the last week/so many days. i.e. all students can be viewed and scrolled at once, rather than having to click each students name. This would be so much faster to monitor quickly in a class.
- a quick report on (as above) but on tasks done from the assigned mission.
- on the STUDENT PROGRESS dashboard, where it already lists the number of struggling skills, mastered skills, time spent. It would be useful to have number of questions done on assigned tasks and tasks specifically within a mission.
