Just looking to get some guidance whether I have got the handle on this question:
a straight line passes through the points A(0,0) and B(a,c). find the linear function whose graph is this straight line.
would I be correct in assuming the answer is finding the slope and then entering this into the equation y=ax+b
i.e y=c/a+b
According to my knowledge, when you encounter a problem the first thing to think about is what you know, then think about what you need to know.
For this particular problem, you known it is the equation of a straight line that you do not know and you need to find out, and you know the coordinate of two points in that line. Therefore, your first step should be plugging in the two known points into the known, since you know the general equation of straight lines, equation, namely y=ax+b.
After that you will get two functions with 2 variables unknown. According to our knowledge of the fact that at least two points would determine one particular straight line, you can find the solution.

Not sure if you have got an answer for your query.
The question you have asked is about the order of operations:
P - parentheses
E - exponents
M & D - multiplication and division which are performed from left to right
A & S - Addition and subtraction which are performed from left to right.
When applying this order you can solve your question -3 x 2 x 2(-3-1)
In this the first thing we need to do is the operations in the parentheses (brackets) -3-1 which = -4. Theodore the equation now becomes -3 x 2 x 2(-4).
The next step is to do the brackets by distributing the 2. 2(-4) = 2 x -4 = -8.
Now we have the expression -3 x 2 x -8 which we solve from right to left although in this case it does not matter what order we complete the multiplication.
-3 x 2 x -8 = -6 x -8 = 48
