AP Courses
If my daughter completes an AP course through Kahn Academy and I am supervising her can she get credit for the class? I'm am not sure how Kahn Academy AP course are acknowledged by other schools or colleges.
No -- think of the Khan AP courses as a way to study for the AP test, but you still have to take the AP test to get credit for the AP course.
Could someone get credit for an AP class by taking the AP test after having studied it but without having taken an actually taken an accredited AP course?
Could comeone get AP credits by taking a Khan Academy course and then just taking an AP test?
Hello @pablosfsanchez! Currently Khan Academy is not able to provide accreditation for course work - I know this was something that has been brought up but not available at the moment. Please let me know if you have any further questions, comments, or suggestions. Thank you for posting.
how do you take the ap exam to earn credit for my courses I take here?
Hello Martha! There are Course Challenges that you can take to test your knowledge on a particular topic as well as Test Prep for a number of different standardized assessments but I'm not familiar with an AP exam which will give your course credit. Could you provide me with more information? Which AP course? Which institution is asking for exam results? Hopefully I can point you in the right direction. Thank you for posting.
martha vickers, The AP exam is administered by high schools in conjunction with the College Board. Normally, students take AP courses at their schools and then sit for the AP exam. I don’t know much else about it. For example, I don’t know if home schooled students can take these exams (and the courses that lead up to them).
If I’m homeschooled, can I take the AP courses through Khan Academy and get credit for it as long as I take the exam at an actual school?
If my son completes the Kahn Academy AP Biology, or AP Chemistry or AP Physics courses, will he be fully prepared to take the corresponding AP exams in 2021, assuming he's mastered the content being taught in your courses? I notice that many stop with the abbreviated content used in the shorter 2020 tests -- will that be expanded?
Thank you very much for offering this resource!
Hi, Tyler Schowalter:
It's wonderful to know that your son's using our AP courses! I understand that you'd like to know if your son would be fully prepared to take the 2021 AP exams afterward.
Please note that the AP courses available at Khan Academy are not directly reviewed by the CollegeBoard and, in consequence, not directly approved by them. Our content experts create content and align it to CollegeBoard’s AP Course and Exam Description. We believe these resources help prepare students that are enrolled in AP classrooms by giving them extra practice and opportunities to better understand the material. However, bear in mind that our courses are not a replacement for work done in a typical AP classroom.
These courses are not intended to be used in a stand-alone fashion or to take the place of a full, in-person AP course. We qualify our AP courses as supplemental courses because, among several other things, we are not able to provide laboratory experiences, feedback on free-response, or essay-type work that several AP courses require.
I know that this probably isn’t the response you were looking for, but I hope you understand where we’re coming from.
