Why am I seeing the teacher features on my Khan Academy account? Can I switch my account from being a teacher to an independent learner?

Khan Academy has been reimagined for teachers and their students! We are thrilled to offer these updates to ensure a more streamlined and engaging learning experience. We do recognize though some users may have been teachers in the past, but would like to use the site as an independent learner now. 

Some reminders about the reimagined Khan Academy platform: 

  1. The reimagined platform only applies to accounts with the teacher role enabled, and any students who are enrolled in a Khan Academy class
    - Check out this article if you need assistance leaving the classes you're enrolled in as a student
  2. If you have the parent and teacher roles on your account, you will see the new platform on your teacher dashboard, and the unchanged platform on your parent dashboard. 

If you would like to switch your account from being a teacher to an independent learner: 
NOTE: the below steps are permanent and cannot be undone! If you are unsure on what to do, please contact the Khan Academy support team. We are happy to help! 

  1. Delete all your classes from the "Class Settings" tab.  Double check the dropdown at the top to ensure you deleted them all. 
  2. Remove all your students from your account from the "Roster" tab. To do this:  
    1. Click the select all check box to the left of the student column 
    2. Click "Bulk actions" 
    3. Click "Remove from my account"

    NOTE: if you have lots of students + classes, click the "View students across all classes" link to save some time! 
  3. Disable the teacher role from your independent learner account settings page. Make sure your  
  4. Disable Khanmigo from your account to stop seeing the Khanmigo free teacher tools. You'll do this from the Khanmigo settings page

If you are seeing the "Welcome to Khan Academy for teachers" page, but don't know why, you can easily skip to steps 3 and 4 by clicking "Go to Learner Home"!
