How do I make assignments for my child?

Great news! Parents are now able to make assignments for their children without needing to add the teacher role, or add their children as students in a class!

Parents are able to assign the following content items to their children:

  • Quizzes
  • Articles
  • Videos
  • Unit tests
  • Course challenges

At this moment, parents are unable to assign Unit and Course Mastery goals. Please note that the maximum number of children that you can assign content to is 10 and each class created can have only one child at a time. 

You can assign content from the following places:

From the Parent dashboard:

  1. Through your Parent dashboard, click on the Assignments tab. From there, select Create assignments. 


  2. This will open up the Class Details modal. Follow the below steps to set up a class for your child in order to make assignments for them.
    - Select the child you want to assign content to from the Children dropdown menu.
    - Name your class
    - Click on the Next button on the lower right hand corner.
    - Select the course you would like your child to work on from the Course Menu




    - Please note: after the above class set up details have been added, you will need to click on the class itself from the "Assignments" tab in order to create assignments for your child. 

    - If you see the below error stating "No available children...", it means you have already set up all the classes for your child or the remaining children connected to your parent account are part of a Khan Academy Districts classroom.
    - Go back to the "Assignments" tab and click on the specific class to create the assignments. 
  3. Once you have completed the class set up, you are ready to create assignments for your child through the below steps: 
    - You'll see all the units from the course you have added to the class.
    - Scroll through the different units. You can expand the units to see the individual items by clicking the > next to each unit title 
    - Click the checkmark on which items you'd like to assign
    - Once you have selected the items, click the blue "Assign" button 
    Note: you will be able to see the number of assignments you are selecting in the Assign button with the parenthesis. Double check this number in case you are assigning more than you intended! 


  4. Once your assignments are selected and you have clicked on the Assign button, select the start date and due dates for the assignments.
    After this, click Assign and you will be all set! 

From the content's page:

  1. Find the content that you would like to assign from Khan Academy's content library.
    - You can do this by using the search bar at the upper left-hand side of your screen, or by clicking the "Explore" menu

  2. Once you are on a content page, click the "Assign" button located at the top right-hand corner. 



  3. Once you have clicked on the Assign button, choose the child (or children) you’d like to assign the content to, as well as the the Start and Due dates for the assignment(s).



  4. Don’t forget to click on the Assign button in the bottom right-hand corner of the pop-up screen to save and complete. Once that is done, your assignment(s) will be all set!
