How do I manage my student roster?

Class changed? Need some help organizing your students? You’ve come to the right place.
 

Add students without Khan Academy accounts to an existing class

  1. Make sure you’re in your Teacher Dashboard. You can get there by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen and selecting Teacher Dashboard from the drop-down menu.

  2. To add a new student, click on the name of a class. Don’t have a Khan Academy class set up yet? Learn how to create one here.
  1. Click on Students under Admin in the left sidebar. 
  1. On the Student Roster page, click on Add new students.
  1. Follow the prompts. 

How to remove students from a class

Do you need to remove a student from a class? We know you are sorry to see them go!
  1. Make sure you’re on your Teacher dashboard. You can get there by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen and selecting Coach Dashboard from the drop down menu.

  2. Click on a specific class and then click on Students under Admin in the left sidebar.
  1. Check the box on the right side of your screen across from the student name. Then click on the Action menu above and select Remove from class
 

How to stop coaching a student

  1. Make sure you’re on your Teacher Dashboard. You can get there by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen and selecting Teacher Dashboard from the drop down menu.

  2. Click on Students under Admin in the left sidebar.

  3. Select one or multiple students by clicking the boxes on the right-hand side of the list of students. Click on the down arrow to the right of the word Actions on the right hand side at the top of the student list and select Stop coaching. This will remove selected students from ALL classes.

How to rename students

  1. Make sure you’re on your Teacher Dashboard. You can get there by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen and selecting Teacher Dashboard from the drop down menu. 
  1. Click on the Students tab. You will see that students are listed by their usernames.

  2. To change that, hover your cursor over the student name. A link will appear to the right. Click on Edit display name. This will open a field where you can change the name to whatever will make it easiest for you to identify and organize your students. 
 
Like things in alphabetical order? Click on the little arrow next to the words Student name at the top of the list of students to put the list in alphabetical order. Click it again for reverse alphabetical order!
