How do I find content to assign to my students on Khan Academy?
Updated
With thousands of exercises, articles, and instructional videos covering topics from K-12 math to biology, grammar, computer science, history, and more, Khan Academy can be helpful for classrooms at all levels. But how can you find the best resources for your specific students?
Choose a course for each class
Make sure to select a course when you create your class. You can check out the courses our resources cover by clicking on "Browse subjects" in the menu on the left. You'll be able to browse our courses by grade or subject, and use our search bar powered by Khanmigo to find the best resources for your class.
Note: Selecting a Course for your class will not prevent you from assigning other content to students or prevent students from practicing on other parts of our site.
You can choose any piece of content on the site and assign it to specific students or your entire class.
And you can always change or add an additional course to your class as well. Here's how you can do it:
- Go to Class Settings on the left-side menu and find the Class courses section:
Finding material to assign
Besides adding a course to your class, you can directly search for the content you wish by accessing our "Browse Subjects" tab:
Once in the "Browse Subjects" page, you can navigate through our courses organized by grade or subject:
You can also use our search bar to find any specific content within Khan Academy:
Searching for content using our search bar will give not only the available lessons in Khan Academy, but also a brief recommendation on what to assign to your students based on your search:
You'll be able to filter the results to have a more compact view of the content. You can filter them by video, exercise, course, unit, document, and Khanmigo tool:
Clicking on a result will open a new window with two buttons, "Assign" and "Preview". The "Assign" button opens your assigning options, as shown below:
Clicking on the "Preview" button will take you to a preview page with the practice you chose:
Find content aligned to your state’s educational standards
Perhaps you are looking for a resource aligned to a specific state standard.
- Start by going to https://www.khanacademy.org/regions/united-states.
- Next, click the state you wish to see the content. In this example, Grade 1 from Alabama was selected:
- Scroll down until you find the exact standard you're looking for. You’ll see a preview of all the Khan Academy exercises aligned to that standard. If you click on the exercises, you can also find related videos and articles to assign for your students.
