Why do I need to pay to use Khanmigo?

Khan Academy uses technology from OpenAI in order to run Khanmigo. This technology incurs cost to use.

Additionally, the technology powering Khanmigo is brand new, and supporting it requires a substantial amount of internal resources to build, test, and ensure that it’s safe for all ages to use. 

Both of these factors make Khanmigo cost significantly more to run than other Khan Academy features. Because of the high cost of this new technology, we have to charge for access on a subscription basis.  

We understand if this makes access to Khanmigo prohibitive for some people at this time. Rest assured that making Khanmigo more accessible to a broader audience is something that everyone on the team wants to happen.
