How can we help KA with adding missing transcripts and correcting bad auto-generated captions?
There are many videos (such as in the new Python course) where the Transcript area is empty. I would be willing to go through the YouTube auto-generated captions and correct the spelling, capitalization, and punctuation (and any mistakes in the captions) by hand, but I only want to go to that effort if KA will then post those transcripts in the Transcript area. (I used the "Report a Mistake" feature to offer a sample and make that offer over 2 months ago, but never heard anything, and the transcript area of that video is still empty.)
I heard from Vox Moduli that in at least one other course, the audio is not good and the captions themselves are also not good. I would be willing to fix those too, if there is a way. (I worked with KA 10 years ago on the official captions for some of their videos, back before auto-generated captions were commonly used, so I have experience.) Right now, when I use "Report a Mistake" to point out needed corrections, even simple corrections that are key to understanding the video can take many months (see https://support.khanacademy.org/hc/en-us/requests/488326 -- over two months so far with no correction).
This is also a disability and diversity issue affecting people with hearing loss or audio-processing disorders, as well as people who are better at understanding written English than spoken English (at least for the accent spoken in the video).
How can we help with having transcripts available and accurate captions?
