Hi Team and Readers,

I piddled around trying to find a similar post but I wasn't sure how to word the search. Apologies if something similar has already been said!

I do a home school-like adult high school program. It has classes like high school but most of them are online or in textbooks with no teachers and I can go at my own pace. For me that means some classes will go by fast and sometimes I might have several math classes or lit classes at one time. Also, the curriculum and material aren't always...the best so sometimes I'll be studying algebra two, go to look up a problem I'm having only to find out it's actually an algebra one or calculus problem. Our books can be a bit funny like that. ;)

Many people in programs like mine enroll because their basic education background was lacking in the first place, so it's not uncommon for me or other students to be working through an issue and find that the problem lies in our basic knowledge in the subject and we need to brush up on something remedial.

I'm finding the new (to me) feature on KA that asks you to choose what subjects you're studying isn't meshing well with me for these reasons. KA is an invaluable tool in our program, I'd be surprised if someone could graduate without using it at least once! I know programs like mine are still a bit unconventional (Although I hope they catch on! They're the perfect alternative for kids who get serious illnesses during their school careers but still want the choice to go into academia later in life! They would be a great addition to the No Child Left Behind Act, imo.) so it can be difficult to find solutions that work for everyone. I just wanted to chime in with some feedback!

Maybe if there was an option to tell Khan what kind of schooling you're doing before being given school subjects to choose from would be helpful? Someone taking conventional grade school classes might only have four classes at a time and is more likely to have a controlled curriculum where, for instance, they can be pretty sure that all of the math in an algebra one class belongs in algebra one except for maybe some review at the beginning and some prep for Alg2 at the end. For them, it seems like picking a limited number of subjects might work well?

I usually end up using the search feature more than anything, and what class or category my searches end up being sorted under can vary even if all of the searches are for the same class on my end. If there were some kind of list that was sorted by a topic I might learn about within a class, such as quadratics instead of algebra one, that might be helpful. I would rather see all the available info about quadratics at a glance then try to guess what class everyone else is leaning quadratics in and if all of my subject matter is covered in that one class or if it's spread out between algebra one and algebra two or other classes I might not be aware of. It would be nice if the list could be changed at any time so that I could swap quadratics for something else when I'm done with that section of the class I'm taking and I feel like I got all of the help I needed.
