Coordinate geometry

I prefer to look at the two inequalities as:

x - y > -1, or in y-intercept form, y < x + 1

x - 3y < -6, or in y-intercept form, y > (1/3)x + 2

I would then graph the two as if they were equations, based on the above forms. Then change the graph line from a solid one to a dotted one. Shade in the area below and to the right of the first inequality. Shade in the area above and to the left of the second inequality.

Where the shaded areas intersect, you can figure out the answer.

One clue - All (a, b) solution sets will contain two positive numbers.
