Conditional Probability Help
I don't understand this problem...
Forty-two travelers to Europe were asked if they had visited France or Italy. Find the probability that a European traveler visited either France or Italy.
The info is in a venn diagram with (France only: 16) on the left (Both: 3) in the middle and (Italy only: 9) on the right.
The answer is supposed to be 28/42 or 2/3. I don't understand how they came to this conclusion. I understand that 16, 3, and 9 can be added to get 28 and there are 42 travelers, but wouldn't there be an "overlapping" amount in the diagram to subtract out?
