Hiding Grade Levels - any new updates? We're begging you, Khan Academy!
This question has been asked several times in the past, but it appears not within the last year.
Is there a way to hide "Grade Levels" for students?
I teach GED / HiSET Math to adult learners, and have had several students drop my class when they see that they are reviewing "2nd grade" math. Khan Academy is an amazing resource, and I'd love to continue using it, but this small, simple issue is really hurting my students' self esteem. I've heard similar complaints from friends who work in Special Education, community college, elementary school, and high school. I'm aware of one school that dropped the use of Khan Academy all together because of this issue.
From an academic perspective, "grade level" is an inappropriate way to measure knowledge, and is something that is determined (and frequently changed) by governments, rather than teachers or academic researchers.
The simplest way to do this would be to change the word "grade" to the word "level".
This would allow those who are already familiar with the "grade levels" transition easily, while retaining students that Khan loses due to these self esteem issues.
This would also make the site available to teachers and learners outside of the United States (who have different measurements of "grade level" than the U.S.).
