Please make a permanent link on the KA website to the status page, and update it for every significant issue
On Monday 2025 April 21, Khan Academy rolled out the new bonus questions feature.
There was also a weird glitch on the website for a couple hours that day, with some text appearing in a different font from normal and the options to add *bold* and _italic_ in posts under videos were not working. Someone else reported that students could not enter exponents when working in the Algebra Basics course - which impedes the functionality of being able to do practice problems and exercises. My guess is that rolling out the new feature caused the glitch.
KA sometimes puts updates about outages in a bright blue banner at the top of the site (that was not done on Monday). KA also has a status page that they sometimes update about outages, but there is no permanent link on the KA website to the status page.
I rely on the bold & italic formatting when I am answering algebra questions within the limitations of the text boxes under the videos. I tried to figure out if the problem was on my side. I shut down everything I had open on my computer and rebooted it - I would not have done that if I could have followed a link to a status page and seen there was a problem on KA's end.
3 of us posted to the Support community about the glitch, wondering what was happening and how to fix it. A KA Support Advocate responded to each of us; my guess is that that took longer than it would have taken someone to update the status page. I would think it only takes 1-5 minutes to update the status page.
KA staff: Please strongly consider making a permanent link somewhere on the KA website to the status page, and always taking a couple minutes to update the status page when there is a significant issue on the website.
