Hi KA team,

My child currently learns English at Khan Academy kids and we both love the app. I would like to know if you are willing to develop this to teach other languages. I would be willing to help volunteer create content (and recruit a volunteer team).
Of the different tools in KA kids, (letter recognition, reading, vocabulary building, spelling, storytelling and learning through music) some tools will translate (pun intended) across languages, while others will require some modifications.

I really hope my request gets your consideration. I want to raise a multi lingual child and I know she will learn better if Kodi, Ollo, Peck, Reya and Sandy join her for the ride.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your idea with us and for your kind and inspiring feedback!

As we grow and expand, we continue to add new content to offer a better education on Khan Academy. However, adding language courses is not a part of our roadmap at this time.

While we wish we could implement all of our users' requests, we need to make difficult decisions about which features and requests are aligned with our goals at the time.

As our needs and resources change, it’s possible that we may be able to revisit this issue at a later date, but I can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to do so, or provide a timeline for when that might happen.

I know that this probably isn’t the response you were looking for, but I hope you understand where we’re coming from. For an explanation of Khan Academy's Content Principles, please check out this article.

We really appreciate your enthusiasm for Khan Academy, as well as your sharing your feedback with us.

Hi Alex,

Thanks so much for your response. I have been waiting to hear back and I’ll be honest -I was hoping to hear a different response but your email got me thinking.

Would Khan Academy be willing to let interested content creators like me use the code to create content, ie I am wondering if it is open source code. You see, while I have ideas to create content I do not know how to code. Moreover, I feel time is of the essence ( to capture my childs' attention to learning other languages) - so having a framework to build on would provide a tremendous head start.

Also, would it be possible to help me connect to someone/s in KA so I could pick their brains on how to go about a project like this - as I would like to pursue this on my own?

I'm the sort of bilingual parent of a child I'm trying to get to become bi-/trilingual. I'm improving my Spanish with Duolingual, but as my kindergartener is learning to read most apps aren't helpful for teaching a 2nd language without knowing to read in a primary language. I know apps exists, but they're hit & miss and paying for an app just to find your kid loses interest after a couple of weeks can get to be really costly. Most of my friends who immigrated to the US learned multiple languages in school as early as 5y/o. Most schools in the US require a 2nd language by the end of high-school. So I think it would be really good to create lessons for kids to learn additional languages.
