I really hope they get replaced and soon. Those badges used to motivate me to keep going. 

while I understand the reasoning behind removing them, I hope they make a new system for some of these badges, especially 1k kelvin, I strived for that badge for years, and finally got it a month or two ago, that was very satisfying.

People under 13 will never get to experience the satisfaction of receiving these badges. I know this is in the best interest of KA's future, but this news made me sad and slightly angry.

I think it's debatable. There are both good and bad sides to this argument, but it is for the best. I agree that motivation is a big part of earning badges, and that is somewhat diminished by this, but we can still learn! 

LR or anyone who knows: what are the Super, Gold, and Silver Knowledge games badges for? how were those earned?

I'm really disappointed because I was starting the long push up to 10 million points when this happened. I guess there won't be anymore 299,792,458 meters per second farming.

Does anyone know if they will be bringing back these badges once this situation is over or anytime in the future?

Hey Phoenix, those badges were available only on the Portuguese website during the 2016 Olympics. They held an event called the Knowledge Games and users had to complete a certain amount of exercises, articles, or videos in order to earn the badges. I'm pretty sure only me and 3-4 other users on the USA site obtained those badges as they weren't advertised to USA users.

I dislike the changes, but I trust the KA leaders know what they are, doing. I will miss them, but in the end I believe it is for the better.

I really really dislike the changes, those badges where such  a good motivation and like almost all of them are gone !!!

I was striving to get Da Vinci for sooooo long, but then it retired. :-(

I dislike the changes too but it is for the best. They had to remove the badges to clear up space for future updates.

I am not as upset about the speed badges being removed as they were driving me crazy ( some lessons it is just impossible to get them) but I had a sense of pride doing 100 questions per lesson. I really wish they hadn't removed that one. 

Btw, they all retired as of April 27, 2020

They will probably bring them back in the future once they clear up all the coding issues people were talking about.

I'm not thinking so, but this is quoting Evan Lewis from about a week ago when I asked him about replacement badges:

"Re-introducing some of the retired badges may definitely be a possibility in the future, but unfortunately there is not currently a timeline for when this might happen.

I definitely understand how frustrating it can be to have some of these highly motivating badges removed, but unfortunately this is a necessary step in order to help ensure our site is running smoothly and is maintainable in the future.

I've also gone ahead and passed this feedback along to the team for consideration so your ideas can be taken into consideration once adding new badges is able to be prioritized!"

I really hope the badges will be back if not newer,atleast the older versions..
They really kept me focused.. and the rush when u get a badge.. :'D
whew,the only reason i choose khan academy over any other learning platforms.

I'm glad I was able to earn Millionaire before it retired, but thanks to this set of retired badges, I now have more Sun badges than the ones currently possible, I can't earn any more Sun badges, and I have more Sun badges than Earth badges now.

I was SO CLOSE to millionare!!!! ug.

How do I have six retired meteor badges. Thumbs Up. Thumbs Down. Virus. Express Yourself. Fingers or Toes. Five is Alive! Makes Perfect.

I am happy that I achieved millionaire and I am happy that the black hole badges weren't removed since they were big motivation but I am very sad that other badges were removed since I wanted them.

Why does KA have to do this?

Yes, there were also Challenge Patches for completing Math units.

I am so sad! I really had faith on some of does badges, but they are retired, hope they replace new ones soon! But are more badges going to be retired as well?

I think so. More than wanting retired badges to be replaced, I want the retired badges to be re-introduced.  I managed to earn a few retired badges before they were retired, but it was such a shock when they got retired.
