Basic Skills Assessment (add a placement test)
I, too, am in need of a Basic Skills Assessment.
It seems that several skills can be auto-assigned to students following an assessment. When I look up student data under 'Course Mastery Progress', several skills seem to be listed like they would be auto-assigned based upon some criteria. I can pull up reports on my 6th graders that list the performances in addition, subtraction, basic multiplication, etc. that are not covered in 6th grade math. How are these skills assigned to my students when I've never assigned them nor have they been covered in the NWEA MAP test?
I have a group of students in one particular class that have significant knowledge gaps in basic math skills, ranging from 1st grade to 5th grade.
If a basic skills assessment isn't available, I can begin each of my lower-performing students in the 1st grade math course and have them work towards mastery in specific skills. Students who struggle will continue to be assigned lessons in certain topics. Students who achieve mastery quickly can easily be assigned to the next grade level course, following the same procedures. Khan tracks mastery performance of specific skills within completed lessons for each course.
It's a shame that Khan has such a vast library of resources and can provide specific feedback on student performance, but they can't offer a simple skills test for each course that is offered. I love my MAP ACCELERATOR, but it isn't necessarily helpful to my severely struggling students.
C'mon Khan Academy . . . I know your geniuses can come up with a simple option! I believe in you!!!
