Grading for Hour of Code

I would suggest creating your own original projects to grade for the students, as plagiarism can be a big issue with the official computing projects. If you do decide to grade the official projects, you may want to check the browse projects section when grading them to see if a project is copied. Underneath the "official projects" heading, there's a "votes" section and a "recent" section- that is where a lot of students copy projects.

For the official projects, there is Khan Academy-aligned criteria. For example, in the "What's For Dinner" project in the Intro to JavaScript, the criteria is as follows:

• Draws something on the plate that's some sort of meal. (Creativity is encouraged!)
• Uses at least three function calls to draw shapes (besides the original plate).
• Uses at least three function calls that change the fill or stroke colors of the drawing.
• Doesn't have any syntax errors or program logic errors.
• This project seems to be the original work of the author.

One example of an original project is to have the students design their favorite shoe. The criteria could be similar to this:

• Draws a type of footwear on the canvas [this requirement could be stretched a bit to encourage creativity]
• Uses at least six function calls to draw shapes
• Uses at least three fill(); or stroke(); commands
• Doesn't have any syntax errors or logic errors.
