Since law of sines works on oblique triangles, but sine of angle require opposite over hypotenuse. What is the hypotenuse in an oblique triangle?

Online one definition defines hypotenuse as the longest side in a right triangle. Does it have to be a right triangle?

Hi Asuna,

For an oblique triangle, trigonometric ratios do not apply. This include the law of sines. Also, oblique triangles cannot have a hypotenuse. A hypotenuse is defined as "The longest side in a right triangle."

With a line perpendicular to the base of the triangle, the oblique triangle is divided into two right triangle and then we can "apply" the law of sines.
