How can administrators recommend and assign Unit Mastery Goals to teachers?

Opdateret

Khan Academy Districts administrators can recommend and assign Unit Mastery Goals (UMGs) to teachers in their district. Unit Mastery Goals are targets set for students to achieve Mastery in specific units of a Khan Academy course. Having an administrator assign these helps save teachers time and guide classroom instruction by setting clear, trackable targets.

Who can assign Unit Mastery Goals?

Only administrators with certain high-level permissions have access to assign Unit Mastery Goals on behalf of teachers. We call these users “Super Administrators.”

You’ll know who is a Super Administrator by:

  • Visiting the “Manage Administrators” section of your Administrator Dashboard.
  • Those who have “District” under the “Admin Role” column and “Manage” under the “Permission” column have access to this feature.

Please contact your Khan Academy District Success Manager or another Super Admin if you need, but do not have, the permissions needed for this feature.

How do the Unit Mastery Goals administrators assign show up to teachers?

There are 2 ways the Unit Mastery Goal assignments from administrators can appear to teachers:

1. If the teacher does not have Unit Mastery Goals already assigned to their students:

  • The admin’s assignments will be automatically assigned once the nightly roster sync occurs.
  • The teacher will see the below popup on their class that reads "Classroom assignments are ready!"
  • The teacher can then click the "Review assignments" button on the popup to learn more about what the administrator assigned. They also can always go back in and edit or adjust the assignments on their teacher dashboard as well.

2. If a teacher already has similar or identical unit mastery goals for their classes:

  • After the nightly roster sync, an administrator’s Unit Mastery Goal assignments will appear on the teacher's dashboard as recommendations.
  • Teachers will see blue banners on their class' "Activity Overview" page telling them they have Mastery recommendations.
  • Then the teacher will click "View recommendations" and accept, or dismiss the administrator’s recommendations.
