Why would you distribute the numerator of the solved first derivative twice? See my comments indicating the double application of 3x^2 and the lines indicating its double application. There isn't an encompassing parenthetical statement (nor should there be) that justifies the distribution twice.

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure what you're meaning by "distributing the numerator of the solved first derivative twice".

The 2y in the bottom of the first derivative is distributed to all terms in order to get rid of the double fraction, but the 3x^2 is only multiplied by the other 3x^2 term.
