DGPE Summer Project 2019 - A Big Thank You!
It's the summer holiday in the Northern hemisphere, and some of the KA students have been heating up their PCs to help out with the evaluation queue!
During the last week we've seen the queue reduced from 16,880 (July 1st) to 7,699 (July 29th) projects, or more than halved.
On July 1st some students had been waiting for evaluation since May 11th. That's 50 days. At project end the oldest project in the queue was from the 26th of June. That's 33 days. It's still far too long, but that is certainly better than the previous wait times!
We don't know who all the evaluators who helped reduce the queue are, but we do know the nicknames of 13 students who entered the Doing Great Project Evaluations 2019 Summer campaign. These students helped us deliver a whooping 4,820 evaluations in just over 4 weeks. If each evaluation represents 5 minutes of work, that is equivalent to just over 400 hours. That does not include feedback on evaluations, about half of it handled by the Peer Instructors, nor the time spent on workshops, nor reading the learning material, nor taking the Instructor exam, nor assisting the Guardians.
Participants' reports resulted in Guardian actions taken in 85 cases of plagiarism and 10 against inappropriate projects.
On behalf of DGPE I'd like to thank Admiral βetasin, Jonathan Bagwell, Lin Gh, AD Baker, Allison, Anita Moroz, An0n3m0us, Christelle Winter, Element118, Ryan (Lone Ninja Studios), Markarino, Pinkpuppy22 and Tamsyn for participation in the Summer Project of 2019. Your energy and enthusiasm has been catching!
Special thanks to Admiral βetasin, Johathan Bagwell and Lin Gh. who were Peer Instructors. They had a big hand in bringing 6 students to the point where they could take their own Instructor Exams.
We'd also like to thank Larry Serflaten and Pamela Fox for feedback on our learning material.
To all of you, including the nameless evaluators out there: Catch the bugs, catch the beauty, and thanks for making KA's CS section what it is.
Evan Lewis (and ChrisRennick54 and Inger Hohler)
