Some of the systems of inequalities problems (specifically the ones directing you to "find x + y" or similar) are exceedingly computation-heavy, with multiple steps involving operations on ugly fractions. Is this characteristic of the actual SAT? Any tips on how to do these efficiently without making mistakes?

As an incoming senior who has taken the SAT and pSAT like a dozen times, let me tell you: There will be about 5 of these problems on each of your SATs. So you HAVE to know how to do these problems, or else your score will drop about 100 points. My recommendation? Just practice doing these problems. There are various methods to solve them, find one you like and go. This is a vital building block of your math, it will help you across all types of math (isolating or manipulating variables, etc).
