How long do the courses take?

I understand your possible frustration about Khan Academy not answering your questions. However, I believe it's due to the fact some people start a course that they already know or don't care about and not only that but most learners even when they're assigned work from a course, they usually don't end up doing the whole course! So, if we did find the average that you were talking about, then it would likely be way lower than what it actually is. It also depends on the person and their dedication and knowledge prior to completing the course so it likely even if we found a true average, it may not be a right number for you.

All of Khan Academy's courses are designed to be self-paced and are based on Mastery Learning, meaning that the course is considered "complete" when you achieve 100% mastery and you can take as much time as you need to do that. We don't provide a standard completion time for courses, because the time required will vary greatly depending on the individual and any potential learning gaps.

As Andrew mentioned, it would be very difficult to calculate an average course time, for a variety of reasons. Learning times vary per student, some students are working through the courses self-paced while others are using it in a classroom setting, not everyone that starts a course finishes it, some may take a long break and come back to it, etc. Even in a classroom setting, completion times can vary---for example, in my area Trig & Precalc are combined into a single year long course, whereas in other areas Trig may be combined with Algebra 2, Geometry, or be its own standalone 1-2 semester course.

That being said, in the "typical" classroom setting, the following courses are generally completed during a full school year:

• All grade level and high school math
• High school science
• All AP courses
• US History

NOTE: This is not a comprehensive list

A more accurate time estimate is the total video runtime for a course, which I'm happy to provide to anyone who asks.

• Trigonometry: 82 videos, 10 hours 15 mins
• Precalculus: 286 videos, 27 hours 30 mins

The total video runtime will be the minimum amount of time required to complete the course, assuming you want to complete all of the instructional content and not just the exercises (only the exercises increase your mastery score).

I suggest taking some time to start working through each course until you discover how much instructional content you are able to comfortably complete in a day. Once you have done this, you can get a much more accurate estimate of your completion time.

For example, if I decide I can complete 15 mins of instructional content in Precalculus every day (plus the accompanying practice exercises), then I can estimate my completion time as follows:

27.5 hours / 0.25 hours per day / 5 days per week = 22 weeks to completion

You may want to underestimate your daily hours a bit, to compensate for the time needed for exercises, quizzes, tests, any difficult concepts you might get stuck on, etc.
