During the video it is stated that the equation y=2x+3 can be arranged in many different ways. The last method the instructor states "I'm not going to do it right now..." then shows this equation (y-5)=2(x-1) and moves on without explanation. This is driving me nuts! I can not figure out how to get (y-5)=2(x-1) from y=2x+3.

(y - 5) = 2(x - 1)

(y - 5) = 2x - 2 <= distribute the 2

y - 5 + 5 = 2x - 2 + 5 <= add 5 to both sides

y = 2x + 3

AD Baker, Thank you for your response. If you went the other direction it would be?

y = 2x + 3

y - 5 = 2x + 3 - 5 <= Subtract 5 from both sides

(y - 5) = 2x - 2

(y - 5) = 2 (x - 1) < Factor out the 2
