Content Update: What I love about AP® Biology!

Hey everyone!

I’m Ali and I’m a biology content fellow here at Khan Academy. On behalf of the Sciences team, I’m so excited about our newly launched AP® Biology course! As a former AP® teacher myself, I still remember looking all over the place for a free, go-to source to help my students learn and practice all the content that’s packed into AP® Biology. Well now, I’m proud to say that this new course on Khan Academy is just that—a one-stop-shop for all things AP® Biology!

Here are the top 3 things I love most about our new AP® Biology course:

1. “AP-style” practice: The AP® Biology exam is full of what I like to call “AP-style” questions. I remember my students often being intimidated by these questions since they required more than just the recall-based knowledge they were used to from their previous biology courses. So now, our practice exercises have been designed with “AP-style” in mind! They’re full of questions that task students to analyze data, formulate questions, develop conclusions, and even diagnose disruptions to structures and functions!
   
   
2. Rationales, rationales everywhere! When I was preparing my students for the big AP® exam, I spent a LOT of time reviewing multiple-choice questions. Interestingly, I realized that a lot of my instructional time was not only devoted to explaining why an option choice was correct, but why the other option choices were incorrect. Enter rationales! Every single practice question consists of succinct rationales that tackle misconceptions and make sure students truly know why an option choice is correct and why the others are not!
   
   
3. Aligned instruction: In addition to all the new practice offered in the course, we’ve also made sure that the instruction consists of exactly what students need to know. Nothing more, nothing less! Every piece of content, including instructional videos and articles, are now fully aligned with the AP® Biology Course Description. We even added a bunch of completely new videos made just for AP® Biology. Rest assured, if it’s in the Course Description, we’ve got it (and you) covered!
