Is Khan Academy just for people in US

Hi i hope some one can help me I'm a home educator in the UK and home educate my 4 children. Some one mentioned Khan Academy to me. I thought it looked interesting and wanted to give it a try. I was able to set up a account for each of my children and set location as in UK. But when they try to do maths it is coming up with in appropriate American money maths. Is every thing on khan Academy US orientated.

Is it possible to get UK content (UK money maths etc). Or is Khan Academy only for people in US. If so why don't they mention this on website or when signing up.

I'm guessing khan academy isn't suitable for any where apart from US which is a great shame as it's a great idea.

I don't know if it's possible to get UK money maths but the other kinds of maths aren't necessarily US specific, using units from both systems (inches and centimeters) and I don't think fractions or other maths where the unit is just added at the end and doesn't affect the equation. Also have you looked at the other subjects, world history is good even if you don't do US history and depending how old your kids are there are grammar and science topics available.

Just cause its in dollars does not mean the concepts are different.Maths concepts are universal.It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever .

For the record i am from a village in india and i relearned everything from scratch using Khan academy.

Hi Lucy,

Khan Academy looks mostly to what is taught in US schools. Fortunately, especially as this resource is free, most of what is taught in the US is also applicable elsewhere. It's only a small fraction of the videos and exercises which use non-metric units. Many non-US schools still teach conversion to inches and feet because there are measurements the student will meet in everyday life. If you don't want your children to learn it, and are not prepared to do these exercises for the children, there is no way for them to achieve full mastery of that specific mission. You can, however, award them customized diplomas for the mission to motivate them.
