Lesson states a RECTANGLE is a SQUARE?

I graduated college nearly 20 years ago, but want to pursue an advanced degree in economics. Therefore, I am brushing up my math skills starting in... 3rd grade. Yes, 3rd to make sure I fill in gaps. Anyways, go to 3rd Grade Math and in Quadrilateral section the video at the end says a square is a rectangle.

But when I go to answer questions sometimes it says it's incorrect that a square is a rectangle? Which is it?

Hello ksymolon!

Yes a square is a rectangle because a square is one of the most basic( probably more important ) geometric shapes, It is a special case of a parallelogram that has 4 congruent sides and 4 right angles. A square is also a rectangle because it has two sets of parallel sides and four right angles. A square is also a parallelogram because its opposite sides are parallel. Any parallelogram has equal sides, a Kite can also be a suare, for the fact its a quadrilateral!
