I'm a parent of 4 and my kids stopped coming to me for math help around 5th grade due to my lack of expert help. I'm about to start tutoring high school kids and want to see where I stand with math skills and brush up on them so I can help tutor better. Any advice on how to go about testing myself and picking up where I need refresher skill sets?
I don't know what 5th grade is as I am in Scotland so I don't know what level of math we are talking about here but it would make sense for you to work through the math modules until you get to the level where you need to be.
I dropped out of school at around 15 and had been playing truant a lot before that so there is a lot I missed out on. I am working through pre-calculus modules right now.

Unfortunately we don't have anything like an "all-encompassing" benchmark to tell you which course to start at, but one option is to start a few grade levels below where you will be tutoring and take the Course Challenge for each of those courses.
After completing the course challenge, this will give you credit for skills that you have already mastered (answered correctly on the course challenge) and highlight skills that you may need to practice (those that you got incorrect on the challenge). You can then practice individual skills or take the Unit Tests to help you review skills that you may need to brush up on.
