Content update: Texas 8th Grade Science is here!

Khan Academy is excited to announce the launch of our brand-new Texas 8th Grade Science course! This comprehensive course was built by our team of science content experts to help Texas students deepen their understanding of science concepts and lay the foundation for high school science success.

Here’s a quick overview of what makes this course special:

Real-world, TEKS-aligned science content: Our new 8th Grade Science course helps students make sense of the world by connecting life, physical, and Earth and space science concepts. This curriculum is fully aligned with the new TEKS standards and incorporates scientific and engineering practices (SEPs) along with recurring themes and concepts (RTCs) to enhance student learning.
Clear, focused instruction: The course includes brand-new instructional videos and articles that bring science to life through everyday examples and authentic phenomena. These resources are designed to make complex science concepts clear and accessible. Short, targeted videos provide focused explanations to reduce cognitive overload, while concise articles reinforce the same concepts using simple, direct language.
Practice that goes beyond recall: Students can tackle new exercises that include both conceptual problems and applied practice. Whether they’re interpreting data, analyzing models, or predicting outcomes, students will use core science ideas and practices to deepen their understanding.
Low-prep, hands-on science activities: The course features interactive, standards-aligned activities that encourage students to ask questions, plan investigations, analyze data, and communicate scientific explanations—just like professional scientists and engineers. Each activity comes with an easy-to-follow student guide, and a teacher guide that provides a materials list, prerequisites, implementation and differentiation strategies, an answer key, and more.

Hi! Thanks for this course - I see that it brings together much of the exciting new middle school science content, and facilitates interconnections between domains.

For those outside Texas and not in the TEKS curriculum, too, the curation is helpful. I'm curious if similar thematic curations of science courses can be made to serve various early college and lifelong learning needs - for filling in swiss-cheese gaps, as well as brushing up basics.

I'm thinking of a high school science version of this course bringing together physics, biology, chemistry -- all currently with excellent courses of their own. It's also for a longstanding user base of Khan Academy, much before the massively helpful classroom tools: self-directed learners. Khan Academy's greatest gift, perhaps, is instilling this love for learning - while being mindful of immediate professional and academic study requirements.

Similarly, a non-TEKS Middle School Science including this content and other relevant content would be helpful - like AP and non-AP courses.

Finally, like the old World of Math Mission, I'm cuirious if you can make World of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth, Space, Environmental Sciences curations - mastery-enabled massive courses combining ALL the middle school content AND high school/AP content of that discipline, sequenced from basic to advanced following learning science best practices.

The forthcoming new design promises to gamify the platform even more, and in a way that facilitates consistent engagement with mastery - so I'd love for these curations to help self-directed learners, while the massively impactful teacher tools, Districts product and Khanmigo continue to serve and supercharge classrooms worldwide.
