Project search by Title

Khan Academy is unlikely to ever implement a search feature for CP projects. A popular programmer, Willard, once created such a search feature but it only worked for a tiny fraction of the total number of projects and he had to preload every single program that he wanted to be searchable beforehand and store them all in an array.

It’s simply not practical for Khan Academy to do this for every project. They would have to first catalog every single program which would take a substantial amount of time. Then, they’d have to add a function for saving a new program to add that project to the list. They’d also need to remove that project if it ever got hidden or deleted. After all of that, they’d have to create a search algorithm based on something other than just title because of a billion “New Program”s. The algorithm would probably search through program code for things like P3D or API calls to classify programs for search optimization not to mention search by username/nickname/KAID.

Not only would this be a massive undertaking, but the system may very well crash if coded in JS because of the absurd length of the array. That means they’d have to use a database which would take a long time to load because of all the programs and would be susceptible to hacking through API requests.

In the end, it’s a ridiculous task for a small benefit. If you really like a project and want to be able to access it again, bookmark it or spin off. If you need to find a tutorial, submit a help request.
