The entire education world manages class lists by last name. Why on Earth would the devs at Khan Academy choose to buck that convention and sort rosters by first name? I can't be the only one who finds this quirk infuriating. It doubles the time and effort required to sift through the data.
Please add the option to sort rosters by LAST name.

I read the above mentioned article to order my students alphabetically by last name. There is no little arrow next to "student names" on the tab it mentioned. The only thing I can do is edit each of my 100 names, and wait a few seconds in between each change for the changes to save. Very time consuming. There has to be a better way...

On your teacher dashboard, underneath "Admin", there should be a students tab. On the students page, the arrow is located underneath "Your students (number)" by the student name heading (see image attached below).
Clicking this arrow should put the list in alphabetical order, and clicking it again should put it in reverse alphabetical order.

I am also having trouble figuring out how to get my rosters to be alphabetical by last name. I tried following Allision (tAG54)'s directions, but I don't seem to have a down arrow next to "Student Name."
I tried the links provided above, but they don't offer solutions for how to alphabetize by last name. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Emily,
It looks like you are on the general teacher dashboard. The alphabetize/reverse alphabetize feature should still be present there, but it may show up in one of your specific classes. If you click the heading that says "Classes", select one of them, and underneath "Admin", select "Students", you should then see the arrow next to "Student name":
Note that this does not sort student's names by last name -- as of now, you can only sort by alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order. You can change their display name individually if you'd like -- instructions for doing so can be found here.

OMG, that's the issue and why the original poster asked Khan to fix this. ALL teacher spreadsheets and online grading programs sort Alphabetically by last name. Having to retype the display name of each of your students separately is very inefficient. It's should not be that difficult to offer a carrot pull down so teachers have the option to sort how they want.
