SAT Vocabulary

Thanks for your post. We're sorry, but no such list exists. The new format of the SAT does not test vocabulary explicitly, and so any test prep provider who might claim to have a definitive list (including us!) would be making it up.

We'll add that words-in-context questions on the SAT Reading Test now focus explicitly on the use of the words *in context,* so knowing the simple dictionary definition of the word in question is generally not as helpful as comprehending the immediate context of its use.

That said, the Reading Test includes challenging material, and high-utility words (e.g. fidelity, currency, objective, subjective, discriminate, differentiate, deduce) are emphasized over less common, more obscure words (e.g. jejune, histrionic, capricious, mercurial, bombastic, adamant, ephemera, idyll). 

We believe one of the best ways for students to prepare for the new SAT Reading Test is to read challenging material from online and print journals and news sources (eg National Geographic, Nature, NY Times Book Review, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Atlantic Monthly, Harpers, The Economist), to look up words that they don't know, and to practice explaining *in their own words* what the point of each paragraph of each article is.
