Connecting child to parent email

I am both the parent and teacher to my students (we homeschool).  How do I link their accounts to my email?  I have already signed into each of their accounts and entered MY email in the "request to link" section in their settings but no link notifications ever show up in my email nor do I get notifications on their account that the request is being sent.
