Why do we float in space?

If we float in space because forces like gravity and air and friction don't stop us, then wouldn't we just stay in one place? And also what about the gravity from stars, asteroids and nearby planets? Even tiny chunks of space rocks produce a force.

We keep moving because there isn't any force to counteract your movement. And yes asteroids do create gravity, we all do, but there is still enough force from planets to make it so the asteroids don't have a effect. (Planets do effect while your in space just not nearly as much.)
