I'm not aware of any plans to add new avatars, but you're definitely welcome to create your own designs!

While I cannot say what the requirements are for the black hole badges, I will say that they are possible to achieve : )

I agree that the mastery timer can be frustrating at times, but it does help students retain the information that they have learned.
