When will Khan Academy offer a course on Cooking?

Some adults don't know how to cook and those are the people who are morbidly obese because they eat fast food constantly.

Even just basic cooking skills would enable many people to have healthier choices in what they eat from day to day, thus enabling them to to live longer, healthier lives. Khan Academy's course teaching style which features essays and videos would probably be a lot easier to understand for a lot of people wanting to learn to cook but have difficulty grasping recipes and following along with fast paced cooking shows, which tend to say, "Do this, this and this...", but don't really elaborate on the how to part. And a lot of people can't afford to pay for expensive cooking classes. A free basic cooking skills course offered through Khan Academy would probably be really appreciated by many, many people.

Not everybody learns well from reading books. Some people learn better from watching videos of demonstrations of techniques. Khan's smallish videos would be a good learning tool for people who have trouble reading and grasping information presented in books. If people are already familiar with courses at Khan academy, they might feel that they could better understand a cooking course offered by Khan academy. A lot of cooking shows on television are too fast paced to really follow them, plus they assume prior knowledge. If you had zero cooking skills, you would probably be very intimidated and be less likely to try any of the recipes they whiz through.

Khan Academy has courses on of different subjects that help people to learn and work towards getting good careers, but there is not a course on cooking. So, how does that help all the people out there who want to pursue cooking as a career. I am fourteen years old and have been baking for as long as I can remember and would love to keep doing so if Khan Academy had a cooking course it would give me a headstart and that could mean a lot. 

I agree with MadisonBecker. A cooking course taught in the Khan academy style would be very useful, especially for kids since many schools no longer teach Home Economics and many parents don't have the time to teach their kids how to cook. Thus leaving many young people pretty much at the mercy of the fast food industry. Learning to cook is very empowering. Once you learn you have the skill for life and can always be improving on it. Many cooking shows are too fast paced and assume you have prior knowledge and cooking skills, so aren't always good to learn from for someone with little to no cooking experience. Cookbooks also assume prior cooking skills, even many that are geared towards kids. Khan academy's video and essay format would be a good platform for teaching basic cooking skills to a cooking novice. Once the basic skills are learned a person can work on perfecting them for the rest of their life. Being able to cook is a major life improver, plus it can greatly improve chances of getting a job in the food industries. Many restaurants will only hire someone to cook if the person already knows how to cook, they don't want to spend time or money teaching people how to cook. As in, if you don't have prior experience they won't hire you. Even basic cooking skills would improve someone's chances of getting a job in a fast food restaurant or diner, thus building up their cooking experience to add to a resume. Would it be so difficult to add a basic cooking course to the great courses already offered by Khan academy?

The beauty of cooking is that is it is easy to learn, hard to master. 

You can make amazing dishes with little cooking knowledge.
