Beyond Khan Academy: The Nonprofits Advancing a Shared Vision for Education

Khan Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission of providing a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. As part of our nonprofit mission, we work with other educational organizations, including the nonprofits below, some of which were founded or co-founded by Sal Khan.

Khan Lab School

Founded 2014
Khan Lab School is an independent K–12 school serving more than 300 students with three campuses, two in Silicon Valley and one, founded in 2023, in Wichita, Kansas. KLS serves as a school setting for the teaching methods and educational models outlined in Sal’s book, The One World Schoolhouse.

Schoolhouse.world

Co-founded 2020
Schoolhouse is the world’s largest peer-led tutoring platform. The nonprofit offers free SAT Bootcamps and academic support for high school students, led over Zoom by trained volunteer tutors who are also high school students. Additionally, Schoolhouse offers a civil dialogues program for students to discuss important topics with peers around the globe. Students often come for the tutoring and stay for the real, human connection.

Khan World School

Co-founded 2022 in partnership with Arizona State University
A full-time online school for grades 6 to 12 that is designed to reinvent virtual education. Khan World School offers a rigorous discussion-based global learning experience grounded in mastery learning.

Khan Schools Network

Co-founded 2023

A nonprofit that supports the creation of mastery-based schools, develops open-source mastery resources, engages in research and development initiatives, and cultivates a network of mastery-based schools eager to learn from one another.

Khan Academy Philippines, Khan Academy Bangladesh, Khan Academy Pakistan, Khan Academy Vietnam and more

In 2023 Khan Academy established a new model that enables international partners to bring Khan Academy’s free educational resources to school districts and government schools around the world. Local entities provide management and day-to-day operations, in close collaboration with Khan Academy. Each of the programs and entities are independent programs and entities that are not owned or controlled by Khan Academy.
