How is a student’s learning queue organized?
When teachers assign work, whether it's a unit, a video, an exercise, or a Khanmigo activity, students can find it by going to the Classes tab.
Within the classes tab, the learning queue displays assigned work in a clear and organized way, helping students know what to work on and when.
What is the student’s Learning Queue?
Each class has its own learning queue. In the learning queue, assignments appear in the order of their due dates, with the most time-sensitive work listed first. It is from the learning queue that students will access and complete their assignments.
Students can view their learning queue two different ways by selecting one of the icons near the top right:
- Path view (the default view)
-
List view
Path view
In path view, assignments appear as a series of connected icons along a path. This gives students a visual representation of their progress.
- Khanmigo appears on the assignment that is currently selected
- A green checkmark shows that the assignment has been completed
- A yellow icon shows that the assignment was attempted but not completed to the Proficient level
- A gray icon shows that the assignment has not been started yet
Clicking on an icon in the map highlights the assignment and shows more details in a panel on the right. This panel includes the title, content type, and a button that opens the activity.
Note: Students can choose to work on assignments in any order. The learning queue highlights the assignment with the closest due date, but students are not locked into that order.
List view
Students can switch to list view by selecting the icon at the top right of the learning queue.
List view shows all assigned work in a table format, divided into:
- To-do: assignments that are still pending
- Completed: assignments that have been finished
Each row in the list includes:
- The assignment name
- The due date
- The current status (such as overdue or not started)
- The type of content (video, exercise, etc.)
- The unit it belongs to
Students can click on any assignment title to go directly to that activity.
Customizing the learning queue
Students are able to adjust what assignments they see using two drop-down menus at the top of the learning queue which allows students to select their class and filter their view by mission.
Classes
Students can switch between their classes using the dropdown menu
Missions
Clicking on “change” in the Missions dropdown allows students to customize their view of assignments:
Daily and Weekly missions: displays assigned work that is due the current day or week (Monday - Sunday)
-
Daily missions display
- Assignments due on that specific day (individually assigned content and/or individual parts of a Mastery mission)
- Any overdue assignments
-
The weekly mission will display:
- Overdue assignments
- Current week's assignments
- Following week's assignments
- Individual pieces of a Mastery mission (regardless of due date)
Unit missions: displays the assigned work of a particular assigned Mastery mission (whole assigned units that require mastery to be considered complete)
All assignments: displays all the assigned work
How does the learning queue update based on student progress?
The learning queue updates automatically when students work on assignments. Their progress will also be reflected in your dashboard and reports.
Similarly if you add, edit, or delete an assignment it will also update automatically and be reflected in the learning queue.
Tips if students do not see expected assignments
If the learning queue looks incomplete or missing assignments, check the following:
- Is the correct class selected in the Classes tab?
- Are filters applied in the assignment dropdown?
- Has the student selected the path view or list view?
